Course Descriptions

Day 1: Fundamental Concepts, Screening/Muscle Test, & Applications

Two Day course designed to introduce participants to the science, assessment, and application techniques of the Kinesio Taping Method. Lecture Tutorials of the  history, science, and theory of stimulus transmission through skin and resulting therapeutic benefit across efferent and afferent systems is reviewed. corrections for Epidermis, Dermis, Fascia, Space, and Muscle in case study format are presented. Lecture and demonstration by the instructor, then participants perform the Manual Assessments and Movement Assessments. Discussion of the assessment flow charts to determine correct applications and general progression of treatment clinically. The first day course is designed to introduce practitioners to the Kinesio Taping Method. Over the course of this 8 hour class, the instructor will discuss the fundamental concepts of the Kinesio Taping Method and the unique properties and use of Kinesio Tex Tape. During lab sessions, attendees will have ample time to practice screening and muscle testing created for the enhancement of your KT skills and muscle applications for both the upper and lower body. Upon completion of this course, attendees will be able to discuss and apply the Kinesio Taping Method to relax overuse syndromes, stimulate weak muscles, and decrease pain and swelling. In addition to instruction provided by a Certified Kinesio Taping Instructor (CKTI), the attendee will receive 2 full-color Kinesio Taping Workbooks (Workbook 1) to augment their training. Each attendee also receives 60 day membership to the Kinesio Taping Association which includes access to a reference data base.

Day Two: Advanced Concepts & Corrective Techniques

Day two continues with instruction and demonstration of assessment and taping procedures for the Mechanical, Tendon, Ligament and Circulatory/Lymphatic Corrections in case study format. Time is allotted for questions and discussion of the assessment flow charts to determine correct applications and general progression of treatment clinically. Attendees will receive a full color Kinesio Taping Workbook and a 60 day access code to the KTAI Database. The second day course builds on material learned in day one and attendees will have ample time to practice applying these techniques to a variety of upper and lower body conditions. During this 8 hour class the instructor will introduce the six corrective techniques and discuss their application in a variety of clinical conditions. Upon completion of this course, attendees will be able to discuss and apply the KT Method to orthopedic & neurological conditions. Attendees will receive Workbook 2 (KT Correctional Techniques and Clinical Applications) to augment their training. 

Course Objectives

  • Describe the fundamental concepts of Kinesio Taping Method
  • Accurately describe the unique qualities of  Kinesio Tex Tape
  • Apply the Kinesio Taping Method correctly to relax and stimulate muscles 
  • Apply the 5 corrective techniques of the Kinesio Taping Method in guided laboratory sessions
  • Apply the Kinesio Taping Method correctly for pain, swelling, joint, mobility, and stability
  • Apply Kinesio Taping techniques for treatment of select clinical conditions using the concepts and principals of the Kinesio Taping Method
  • List different physiological systems affected by Kinesio Tex Tape
  • Understanding of the contraindications and precautions when using Kinesio Tex tape
  • Demonstrate appropriate use of Manual Direction Tests for tissue and muscle
  • Demonstrate use of Kinesio Screening Assessments to identify target tissue for treatment

Course Requirements

In order to attend a Kinesio Taping Seminar, each attendee must meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Must have completed 80 course hours of anatomy and physiology
  2. Must have a working knowledge of the musculoskeletal system
  3. Must be able to do assessments by evaluating and/or diagnosing injuries and conditions
  4. Must have achieved or is a student in their junior or senior year (transcripts provided) working towards one or more of the following credentials: Physical Therapist, Physical Therapist Assistant, Athletic Trainer, Occupational Therapist, Occupational Therapist Assist., Speech Therapist, Licensed Acupuncturist, Licensed Massage Therapist, Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Chiropractic

What to Bring

Scissors and wear comfortable clothing to allow for full range of motion and application of tape. Bring lunch or be prepared to purchase lunch on your own.

Confirmation and Cancellation

Confirmation of registration are sent via email within three days of receipt. Cancellations seven days before the seminar are refundable less a $25 administrative charge per recipient. There are no refunds for cancellations received later. Please note if you register and do not attend, you are still liable for full payment. Substitutions may be made at any time. All payment is due 5 days before the seminar. Payment is payable to Pow-Well, LLC included with registration form or after online registration.

Requirements to Become a CKTP

  • Complete Three Day Approved KTAI Seminars
  • Pass CKTP Exam 80%
  • Maintain KTAI Annual Membership

Continuing Education Credit

This course is accepted by many professional credentialing organizations and state professional regulatory boards. Rules and regulations change frequently without notification. Please check with your state board to confirm accuracy of this list and acceptance of contact hours. Participants must pay registration fee, sign in and out, attend the entire two day seminar, complete an evaluation in order to receive a certificate of completion. Partial credit is not available. Please save your certificate of completion for the re-licensing process or for your employer. This course is an AOTA, BOC, LMT, NCBTMB and APTA approved. This course is offered for 16 CEUs (16 hours).
